Tips & Tricks To Hosting The Best Drive-In Movie Screen Rental
How to host the perfect drive-in movie night event
Drive-in movie nights are some of the most popular rentals we offer. Our drive-in movie screen rentals have a tendency to create a nostalgic vibe filled with camaraderie and togetherness in front of the big screen. Which is hard to come by in this day and age. Whether you're planning a community event, fundraiser or corporate party - here are some things to plan for to ensure your drive-in movie night is a blockbuster success!
Pick the perfect location
Of course drive-in movie screen rentals take up a lot more space than your average movie night, so location is everything. Look for a spot with plenty of room for both cars and people in chairs. School parking lots and community fields tend to work best. Did you know that we set up our screens on football fields a lot? Our screens are so versatile that sometimes people rent them for their sheer height and size - so no one has a bad seat in the house. We've had hundreds of people sit on the grass in football stadiums to watch the movies on our "drive-in movie screens".
Here's a checklist for your location
- Flat space for the screen? (if the space is too much at an angle it won't work)
- Power within 50ft? (If not you can always rent a generator from us)
- Enough space for cars and people? (if you're hosting it drive-in style)
- Check ground surface for people that will be sitting outside. Also you don't want muddy grounds for cars.
- Make sure if you're in a parking lot or field, that the parking lights are turned off after dark or that there are no sprinklers set to turn on if you're in a field!!!
Plan for parking (and parking attendants)
A key part of any successful drive-in movie night is organizing the parking. You’ll need to have a clear plan for how cars will enter, park, and exit the space safely. Ideally, you want enough room for cars to park with some distance between them, so everyone has a clear view of the screen.
Hiring a few parking attendants can really make a difference. They’ll help guide cars into their spots and keep things running smoothly. Plus, it adds a little bit of that professional touch to your event.
Choose the right movie (super important!)
The movie you pick can make or break your event. Really think about your audience and see what will resonate best with them. Let us preface with - If you're struggling to find the right movie contact us and we can easily help you pick a popular movie based on your audience.
Family-friendly movies appeal to a wide range of epople and classics like "The Lion King" or "Encanto" always go over well. Adult crowds like throwback films like "Top Gun" or "Jurassic Park" even. Again, there are so many factors to consider so please reach out if you need some inspiration or guidance. That's what we're here for!
Find sponsors to help cover costs
If you're a pta volunteer or lifestyle director working with a small budget, it can be hard to find ways to pay for your drive-in movie rental. Most people don't think about this, but did you know our giant inflatable screens are basically huge billboards? A great way to offset costs is by finding local sponsors. Realtors, insurance agents, and banks are usually more than happy to chip in, especially if they get a little promotion in return.
You can offer to project their logo or a short ad on the screen before the movie starts. It’s a win-win—local businesses get exposure, and you get financial help to make your event happen. You could even create flyers or banners with their logos around the event space for extra visibility.
Don’t Forget About the Sound
People often focus on the screen (which is super important!), but the sound setup is just as crucial. Make sure the sound system you’re using is powerful enough for the size of your audience, especially if people are watching from their cars. At Freedom Fun USA, we offer professional sound systems that ensure everyone hears the movie clearly.
All of our drive-in movie screen rentals include an FM transmitter AND large PA speakers. This means that people have the freedom to choose to sit in their car and tune in through their radio, or they can sit in a chair or bed of the truck and enjoy the movie through the crisp speakers we provide.
Snacks Make Everything Better
Let’s be real: no movie night is complete without snacks. You could keep it simple and encourage your guests to bring their own snacks, or you could offer concessions like popcorn, soda, and candy. We have cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cone machines you can rent as well.
If you’re feeling ambitious, invite a local food truck or two to park nearby. It adds to the experience, plus you might even get a portion of the sales to help cover your event costs. Just make sure you’ve got enough trash cans around to keep the space clean and tidy.
